Tips and tricks part 2 - Track Google Changes

Tuesday February 19th, 2008 in tips | 2 Comments »

Nowdays we are witnessing shorter and shorter update cycles on Google and other major search engines.A few years ago it took weeks or even month for Google to change websites` positions, whereas obviously technology improvements leed as to times where you may experience few major changes within a single day.

Web masters and people from SEO industry are now facing a new problem - how to track all those changes?

We had knew about that problem right from the beginning of our work on Keywordremix Project, which helped us to designe some useful tools to do all the tracking for you.

For example:

-Firstly, you should register, it’s a really fast and straightforward process, and it would take you no more than one or two minutes.
-Once you are logged in, go to Edit Campaigns tab and add keywords you want us to track.
-Couple of hours later (usually 1-6 h), we start processing your data.
-After that, users can go to the Reports tab,and see the report on their keywords.

Here is the example :

reports-howto.jpg

The first column is the keyword you entered earlier in the Add Keywords section of the dashboard, then there are 10 URL’s ordered by their position on Google. Column TREND represents a change of position from the previous update.

So what does this particular example reveal?

We have quite an interesting situation here. The site which is now on position 5 is up by 4, and the site on position 9 is down by 4. What happened here is that those two sites switched places, and all occurred between our updates (we perform our updates on every 6 hours)

Ok that is obvious, but, how can I benefit from this?

Let`s say you are the owner of the site that now has dropped on 9. position on Google. You can click on DETAILS icon for site that is now on position 5, and with a single click, you can see all the relevant SEO details related to that site.

Let`s see how that works for some well known site, lets say Amazon.com

That means you can easily compare those details to yours, and try to figure out why you are 4 positions down. Of course, you can do that for any site from the report, or any site you enter on Domain Details Page

When you click on the ANALYSE icon you will get a list of all keywords for that domain from our public database. Please note that this database is not that often updated as the one with the user keywords.

Moreover, you can click on Keyword itself and go to the keyword analysis tool and see trends and results for that keyword.
Those results are gathered in real time, and between updates you can check for results there.

In next few days we will enable export of this data, RSS feeds of changes, graphs, and many more features.

If you have any comments or ideas on this or any other service we provide, please feel free to write us here on blog or contact us using the contact form.

Trends for user keywords

One of our services is that where user log on into his Dashboard and enter keywords that he wants to track. Then, we check for top 10 URL-s for every keyword you entered, and we do that on every 6 hours.

After few days of testing, we are now ready to give you reports for all your keywords.

So, if you log in, and go to your Dashboard and click to Reports tab you will see something like this:

And further more, if you click “User Keywords with Trend change Only” link (marked with yellow arrow on image above) you will narrow results to those where trend is changed since last update.

In this example we see that page with URL http://keywordremix.com/keywords/ is up by 1, that means that 6 hours ago he was on position 5, and now he is 4. on Google.

In this particular example, we can easily conclude that page which is now on position 7 was on position 3 on previous update. Since then he dropped 4 places, and because of that 4 other pages moved up by 1.

In next few days, after we are sure that everything works fine we will start to give our users tools to export this data to Excel and/or CSV and many other nice tools.

Last few days were really fun, we added a lot of new features, and continued our work on existing ones.

First there is whole new section, domain details tool.

Here you can easily see on one page all relevant informations about your site. Among the others there are
-Site summary (with score)
-Number of back links according to Google, Yahoo and MSN
-Number of Indexed pages (Google, Yahoo, Msn)
-Alexa traffic graph and rank
-Number of results on social sites (wikipedia,del.icio.us,technoraty)

Next big thing is that now users can register (for free) and add up to 5 keyword which we will process in 6 hours interval.
Users can see the results in their Dashboard under reports tab. Or when searching in domain analysis tool switch from “All keywords” to “Only your keywords”

(note, you must be logged in to do that)

Also we received a lot of positive feedback from community (especially seofemenino.com, seo2.0.onreact.com, blogowski.eu and azakers.com) and this means a lot to us, so we will continue our hard work on this project.
